Cross Country Chase

Distance - 3m 6f 37yds

Jockey's have a tough time trying to navigate their way around this 3m 6f Cross Country Chase. Some of the big named jockey's often give this race a miss as they fear they'll get a ban if they take a wrong turn.

A combination of J. P. McManus / Enda Bolger is usually a good place to start when trying to pick the winner as Enda Bolger has trained four of the last eleven winners.

JOSIES ORDERS

I don't think there is any doubt that this horse will start as favourite. Currently around the 9/4 mark it might even be slightly shorter than that come the off and it's not without reason. Josies Orders loves it around here having won both starts over the Cheltenham Cross Country course this season. He won in November but that wasn't without drama as he slipped up when going well, he still won by just over a length. He then came back and won again in December even though he was carried left on the run in by Sire Colognes. That interference didn't stop him striding up the hill to win by 2 lengths. A worthy favourite and the one they all have to beat.

QUANTITATIVEEASING

Was extremely unlucky last year when he was going very well on the inside before being hammered and carried out. Hard to say whether Quantitativeeasing would've won but it certainly proved that he knows his way around here and that counts for a hell of a lot. Since that race he has ran four times, winning once and finishing runner up once. It will be interesting to see if Nina Carberry rides Josies Order or this horse. Either way I think Quantitativeeasing will run a big race and is a great each way bet at around 6/1.

BALTHAZAR KING

Balthazar King is a 12 year old dual winner of this race having been victorious in 2012 and 2014. He suffered a horrible fall in last years Grand National but now looks to be getting back to somewhere near full fitness. Philip Hobbs wouldn't run Balthazar King just to make up the numbers so if he lines up for this race at 16:10 then it's because he feels that Balthazar King can win it for the third time. Obviously knows his way around here, he's a favourite with the Cross Country fans and should he win the race again then there will be an almighty cheer in the new stand. A class horse on his day but has been off the track for 340 days.
